Phase IV: Purification & Enlightenment
The third phase, which coincides with Lent, concentrates on spiritual preparation for the Sacraments of Initiation which include Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. The Catechumens are now called the Elect. Those already baptized in another Christian tradition or who are baptized Catholics, are called Candidates.
R.C.I.A. Support
The entire Catholic Community of St. Alphonsus will help
those participating in the RCIA to grow in their journey of faith by offering
their prayers, by their example and by their service.
Each person in the process will have a sponsor who walks with them through the
four phases of the process. Sponsors minister by sharing their faith, hopes and
questions with the Inquirers, Catechumens or Candidates. Sponsors do not know
all the answers, but they will openly share the love they have for Christ and
how that love helps them deal with everyday life.
In addition, the RCIA Team works to support the
participants and to guide the process.
Sacraments of Initiation
On Holy Saturday night, at the Easter Vigil, all who have gone through the three phases and wish to be fully initiated into the Church will receive one or more of three sacraments: Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist.
