Born in a small town, Dong Nai and grew up in Saigon in Vietnam, he was the youngest boy in a family of nine children. He has five brothers and three sisters.
Seven years after arriving in the United States with his family, he joined the Redemptorists in 2007. After spending years in the Redemptorist formation process, he was finally ordained as a priest on February 3, 2018 at Holy Ghost parish in Houston, TX. Right after his ordination, he was sent to Lady of Perpetual Help parish in Kansas City, MO to serve as parochial vicar. Fr. John Son Tran can speak both English and Vietnamese. During his time in Kansas City, Father John Son Tran served in Lady of Perpetual Help parish and many parishes including a Vietnamese parish, Holy Martyrs, in Kansas City.
